I was driving through Salem, not the one in Massachusetts, the small one two towns over from me where I grew up. They put a new gate and a camera pole outside the county courthouse sometime in the last 8 months. Two guards now sit in a booth that wasn't there before. For a building that handles traffic tickets and small claims. Nobody in town got a notice about it. My uncle who worked maintenance there for 11 years says the budget line for it got buried inside a road repair bill. I am not saying it's some big national thing. I am saying a courthouse with nothing worth guarding suddenly got fortified and nobody asked why. What is the strangest upgrade you have seen on a small town building lately?
