Serious question, my barber said he only trusts news he sees live now

He was cutting my hair on Saturday and told me he stopped reading anything about the water plant story in Toledo because every write-up he found had a different number of affected homes. He said if he can't watch it happen live on a camera, he just assumes somebody picked the angle for him. Where do you all draw that line, is live footage the only thing you count as a real source?
