The fact about aluminum wiring in houses built in the 60s
I was reading some old electrical codes last week and found out that houses built between 1965 and 1973 often have aluminum wiring that can overheat at junctions. My house was built in 1970 and I had no idea this was a known issue until I checked the panels. Has anyone else dealt with getting this stuff inspected or replaced safely?

Oh yeah, because nothing says 'safe home' like wiring that heats up on its own, right? My uncle had that stuff in his place from '69 and it basically turned his junction box into a little toaster oven.

And your uncle's place didn't burn down? Lucky guy.

Oh, I'd just love to be @emma96's uncle, living the toaster oven life. Mine has that 1970 aluminum wiring too and I keep expecting the junction box to start making toast. I've had an electrician come out twice to tighten all the connections and he basically told me to pray about it. The scariest part is when you flip a switch and the whole wall feels warm, like it's trying to be helpful by preheating itself. I've just accepted that my house doubles as a space heater now.
