Just lost $150 on a cheap laser level that drifted after a week

Honestly, I thought I was saving cash by grabbing a no-name laser level off Amazon for a kitchen remodel I started last Tuesday. By day three, the line was off by almost a quarter inch on a 10-foot run, and I had to redo all my cabinet layout marks. Ngl, it cost me way more in wasted time and materials than if I'd just spent the money on a decent brand from the start. Has anyone else had a budget laser fail on them mid-job like this?

Picked up a $50 laser last month and the line drifted so bad I had to re-mark everything twice.

Man, I used to be the guy who'd argue that a cheap laser level was fine for weekend projects. I really thought the name brands were just charging a premium for the same basic tech. But after watching a $40 laser drift on me while trying to set up closet shelving, I totally get it now. The frustration of redoing marks and the waste of materials hit me hard, and I had to eat the cost of a new one anyway. So yeah, I had to swallow my pride and admit that cheaping out on a laser was a false economy. Your mileage may vary, but for me, losing that initial $40 just cost me way more in the long run.

Jumped in on a similar deal last fall for some shelving work I was doing. Spent like 60 bucks on this thing that had okay reviews but turned out to be total junk. By the second day the horizontal line was wiggling every time I bumped the tripod, and the vertical one was never straight. Ended up scrapping all my marks and borrowing my buddy's Bosch just to finish the job. So yeah, feel your pain on that one, a cheap laser is just a time bomb in a plastic case.
