My landlord's credit fix guy in Atlanta was dead wrong about removing late payments

A property manager I used in Atlanta told me his 'credit guy' could wipe old late payments off my report with a simple dispute letter. Paid him $150 upfront, waited two months, nothing changed. Turns out those payments were legit, so I should've just done a goodwill letter myself. Lesson learned: don't pay for magic, pay for a real plan. Has anyone else been promised removal and it flopped?
