Rant: everyone pushes the 30% credit utilization rule and it cost me $2k on a mortgage
I kept my cards at 29% for 8 months doing the whole 'under 30%' thing, and my broker in Phoenix flat out denied me because my score sat at 648 the whole time. Dropped every card to under 9% by paying $3,100 across three accounts that same month, and my score jumped 71 points by the next statement. Has anyone else had a lender care way more about getting under 10% than the 30% number everyone repeats?
