Took me 11 months to figure out the collections I kept paying were already past the 7 year mark in Ohio
I had this moment last Tuesday when a loan officer in Cleveland pulled my report and asked why I was still sending $50 a month to a collection from 2016. I figured paying it down would help my score, so I kept at it for almost a year. Turns out the thing had already fallen off my report back in 2023, and my payments may have restarted the clock on it. Now I am stuck between two views. Some people say always pay what you owe no matter what. Others say once it is past the reporting window, touching it is the worst move you can make. I got denied for a rental in Parma because of it, so I am leaning toward leaving old stuff alone. Did anyone else learn this the hard way, and how did you handle it with your landlord?
