Came across an old news story about a group in Vermont that vanished overnight in 2018
Last week I dug into the 'Green Mountain Collective', a tiny commune near Burlington that dissolved with NO trace 6 years ago - members just left their homes and cars behind. Turns out the leader had been skimming their retirement funds for a doomsday bunker in Maine, and they scattered when a local journalist started asking too many questions. Has anyone else looked into these smaller regional groups that implode quietly?

Yeah, that's honestly pretty heartbreaking when you think about it. Imagine trusting someone with your life savings and then finding out they just wanted you for your cash. Hope those folks got back on their feet somehow.

Yeah I remember reading about this case in a magazine at the dentist's office. The wildest part was how the leader had this whole fake prophecy about needing to "purify the flock" by building that bunker. Just goes to show you that the craziest stuff usually has a grain of truth hidden underneath the lies.

Wait, the leader was literally stealing their retirement money to build a bunker in Maine? That's wild. I remember reading about that story when it first hit the local news, but never heard the follow up about the bunker part. So they all just bolted when one journalist started sniffing around, didn't even grab their cars? That's some next level paranoia right there. Makes you wonder how many other small groups are out there doing the exact same thing right now, just under the radar.
