Was anyone else blindsided by how long it took to spot that the guy was literally using the same script as the cult leader he claimed to be fixing?
The "you can leave whenever you want" line got me too because it sounds like freedom but it's actually the hook. What nobody seems to be talking about is the consent angle here. In those old clips, nobody ever asked the people if they wanted to be on camera or be "fixed" in the first place. So the deprogrammer repeating the leader's script kind of makes sense when you think about it. Both of them needed the person to stay in the room for their own thing to work.
