Password reset links that vanish in minutes drive me crazy!

I tried to reset my password for an important account, but the link expired before I could use it! This seems to make security worse, not better, because it pushes people to use weak passwords they can remember easily. How do you deal with this without giving up on strong passwords?

Minutes?! That just forces people to pick bad ones they won't forget.

Wait, did the original post actually say minutes or was that a mix-up? Because making people change passwords every few minutes would be completely insane and no company does that. Even changing every month is too much and causes the problems everyone's talking about.

Totally! My old job made us change passwords every month and I just cycled through the same four with different years added (which honestly made me mad).

Ugh exactly, @zara_hunt. Forcing a new password every few months just makes people do the same one with a new number at the end. It's a total pain and doesn't actually make things safer. Security folks even say it's a bad idea because people just pick weaker stuff they can remember. The whole rule needs a redo.
