Found a way to actually get into the locked Wing Station at the dying mall on Route 9
So there's this mall in Jersey that's basically 80% empty now, and the one place I keep coming back for is this old Chinese spot called Wing Station that somehow survived since like 1989. Problem was, for weeks it was always dark when I walked by, gate halfway down, nobody inside, so I figured it was finally done for. I started just lingering near the food court and watching, and I noticed the gate would lift for about 10 minutes around 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which is not when any mall traffic happens. Turned out the owner only opens for his regulars, this group of maybe 6 old guys who worked at the now closed Sears, and he doesn't even flip the sign. So instead of trying to call or check online like a normal person, I just showed up at 1:50 on a Tuesday and stood by the gate looking lost. He waved me in and I got a $6 plate of sesame chicken that was better than anything I've paid $18 for in the city. If you're trying to get into a dead mall spot that looks shut down, watch for weird short windows instead of normal hours, because those regulars have a whole schedule nobody posts anywhere. Has anyone else figured out a place like this and gotten locked out the first few tries?
