Hot take: my barber talked me out of a $40 clipper kit and I finally get why

Sat in the chair at Earl's on 5th Street yesterday and mentioned I was about to grab a $40 clipper kit off a flash sale to save money on haircuts. He laughed and said the $40 kit has plastic guards that wobble after 6 cuts, so you end up paying a pro anyway plus the $40. Anyone else get talked out of a 'deal' by someone who actually uses the thing for a living?
