Just noticed the 'lifetime warranty' fine print at that flea market booth

Stopped by the flea market off Route 9 last Saturday and this guy was selling these little LED lanterns for $12 each. Big sign said LIFETIME WARRANTY. I asked him what that meant and he just laughed, said "it means until I pack up at 4pm." Said replacements only come back if he's still in the same spot next weekend. Has anyone else run into warranty promises that only exist in a specific zip code or time frame? How do you even verify these things before handing over cash?
