Hot take: those viral before and after cleaning videos are mostly staged
I noticed this after trying to recreate one I saw on Facebook. Lady claimed she used just baking soda and vinegar on a 20 year old stove. I tried the exact same method on my own stove that's only 5 years old. Didn't do jack. Then I found out she actually used a commercial degreaser first and just wiped the baking soda on for show. Another video showed a guy restoring a rusty cast iron pan in 10 minutes. I've restored cast iron for years. Takes way longer. Has anyone else tried following one of these and gotten completely different results?

True, restoring cast iron takes hours of seasoning, not just a quick scrub.

Yeah but isn't most of that time just waiting in the oven?

Oh yeah, the baking soda and vinegar thing is hilarious. "Just let it sit for 10 minutes" they say, meanwhile I scrubbed for 30 minutes and my stove still looks like it survived a grease fire. Their pans come out looking like museum pieces while mine look like I tried seasoning them with disappointment and regret.
