The 'fact check' site that quoted a fake expert, I found the real guy in 10 minutes
Saw a post last week about some miracle diet pill, and the article linked to a 'Dr. Alan Reeves' from a 'nutrition research institute' to back it up. I googled him for 10 minutes, found zero trace of that name anywhere, but the article was shared 40k times. Then I found the actual Dr. Alan Reeves, he's a dentist in Ohio, and he had to put out a statement about identity theft. So my tip: if any story cites an expert you can't verify with a quick search, assume it's fake. Has anyone else caught a bogus quote like that and tried to report it to the site? How did that go?
