Hot take: I watched that 'stranger saves toddler from canal' clip frame by frame and the rescue happened 19 minutes before anyone hit record
So this clip came through my feed about a week ago, the one where a guy in Phoenix pulls a kid out of a flooded canal while a crowd films. It had like 4 million views by the time I saw it. I got nosy and downloaded it, then pulled up the original poster's page, which turned out to be a local news account out of Mesa. The raw upload still had the timecode burned in the corner from the security camera it was cut from. Pull that up next to the timestamps on the bystander phone videos and they do not line up at all. The kid was already on the bank, wrapped in a jacket, roughly 19 minutes before the phone clips start. Whoever cut it just stitched the rescue at the end so it looks like the crowd stood there filming while he drowned. Before you share the next one of these, check if the uploader left a camera clock visible, because it takes about two minutes and it blew this whole thing wide open for me. Anyone else here have a go-to trick for spotting edited rescue footage?

Friend of mine found the same thing on a rescue vid last year, check the camera clock.
