Tried to fact check my aunt's Facebook post about a $9,000 home repair grant and it took me down a 4 hour rabbit hole
Turns out the program she shared was real but from 2021 and only for 3 counties in Michigan, which nobody in the comments bothered to mention. Now I check the date on every "they're giving away money" post before I even read it, does anyone else have a go to move for spotting these?

The bigger issue is that Facebook keeps old posts alive way longer than the programs they talk about. Same thing happened with that $500 energy rebate my cousin shared, the thing expired in 2022 but it still pops up in feeds like it's brand new. The post date is the first thing I check now, and if it's older than a year I don't even bother reading the rest.
