PSA: I roofed 11 years before figuring out I was nailing every shingle wrong
An old timer on a job in Flagstaff last month asked why I was nailing 6 inches up from the edge, said the sweet spot is right at 5 and 5/8 so the next course covers the heads clean. I looked at my last 3 roofs and half my exposed nail heads were from setting them too high after the gun bounced. Anyone got a marker trick or do you just eyeball it off the chalk line?
Huh, I've always set mine right at the nail line on the shingle and never had issues with heads showing through. Maybe your gun pressure is set too high and that's why it's bouncing past where you aim it.
