Hit 1,000 client sessions and now I'm the one questioning everything
I just finished my 1,000th personal training session, and the number kind of hit me sideways. I remember thinking I'd be this confident guru by now, but instead I'm sitting here wondering if I've been overcorrecting form for years. Seeing a thousand different people struggle with the same three movement patterns makes you realize how much is just guesswork dressed up as science. One side says stick to the basics, squat, hinge, push, pull, and the client will improve if they show up. The other side says you need to keep learning new methods because the old ones stop working after a certain point. My last session with a guy in his 60s who finally deadlifted his bodyweight made me lean toward basics mattering more than novelty. But then I've had clients plateau for 4 months straight until I switched their programming completely. So which is it, are we better off mastering the few things that work or constantly chasing something fresh to keep progress moving? Anyone else hit a milestone and suddenly felt less sure than when they started?
