Stopped at a truck stop in Ontario and the shop next door changed my outlook
I was waiting on a part at a Peterbilt dealer in Ontario last month and wandered into the old repair bay next door, where the floor was stained 40 years of oil and the guy still used a pry bar and a prayer on a 3406B, and it hit me that all these laptops and sensors we run now can't replace the feel of just listening to an engine idle, so has anyone else gone back to a shop that does it the old way and felt like you forgot something?

Man, that old timer with the pry bar probably forgot more than most of us will ever know about these engines. Next time you're in there, ask him to show you how he sets the overhead by ear, that trick alone is worth the trip.
