That $600 'rebuilt' turbo I bought off Facebook was a parts bin special

Last month I snagged a 'low miles, freshly rebuilt' turbo for $600 from a guy in Midland. Bolted it on a 6.7 Powerstroke for a customer and it smoked worse than the old one, plus the wastegate stuck shut. Pulled it apart after 3 days of chasing fuel pressure and found mismatched compressor wheels and a scored bearing race. The seller blocked me when I asked for a receipt or any rebuild paperwork. Cost me $180 in gaskets, oil, and my Saturday to learn that lesson. Anyone else gambled on a sketchy online turbo and lived to tell about it?
