My coworker called my desktop 'a museum of half-finished thoughts' and it stuck
She said it after I spent 20 minutes hunting for a recipe screenshot from March 2022, buried under 47 random PDFs and 3 old installer files. Now I keep a single 'maybe later' folder and purge it every Sunday, so far it's been 6 weeks and I only miss one file about sourdough starters.

Weekly purging feels a little aggressive for a six week test. March 2022 was a long time ago, but sourdough starters are a whole lifestyle, so that one loss makes sense.
A better rule might be to only save things you’ve actually opened in the last month, then let everything else go cold turkey. You’ll be shocked how many "maybe" files turn out to be "never" without a Sunday deadline hanging over you.
Does the purge rule include the folder where you hid all the old installers, or are those still lurking somewhere?
