My buddy's 'creative' grounding solution had me dying laughing

Was over at a friend's place helping with some outlets and found he rigged a coat hanger as a ground wire. He said it saved cash, but I'm stuck between fixing it right and not messing up our friendship. Ever deal with a DIY disaster that put you in a tight spot?

You know, when you say 'overblown,' it makes me wonder if people confuse bad work with unsafe work. I've seen posts where someone's DIY outlet install looks messy but works fine. The real issue is when folks skip permits and then panic about being caught. That anxiety fuels these hyperbolic tales. Like my neighbor who swore his garage wiring would burn down the block, but it was just old and needed updating.

How do you even bring that up without sounding like a jerk? I'd just buy the right wire and swap it out while he's grabbing a beer.
