Update: I flipped on recommending used graphics cards in guides
I used to tell everyone to only get new GPUs to avoid problems. After helping a friend build with a used card that runs perfect, I see pushing all new stuff is not always right. How do you handle suggesting used parts without feeling guilty if they fail?

Changed my mind too after seeing a used card work perfectly for years.

Pushing all new stuff isn't always right. Just tell people the risks when you suggest used parts. If it fails, that's the chance you take with used gear.

Ugh some people act like used parts are a death sentence. My whole rig is second hand except the SSD. Got a mining card that's been flawless for two years now. Saved enough for a better monitor. As long as you test it and know the seller, it's fine. Telling someone to always buy new is just bad advice for anyone on a budget.

Totally get it now. I mean, my buddy scored a used 1080 Ti last year and it's still crushing games. He paid half what a new mid-range card costs. Sure, there's a risk, but if you check the seller and test it, it's often worth it. Telling people to always buy new ignores how tight money can be for some. Saved cash lets you upgrade other parts, like a better monitor or more storage.
