My "viral" sourdough starter died at week 8 and honestly the jar was a better pet

Jumped on the 2020 starter craze like everyone else and kept the thing alive for 8 weeks before it turned pink and smelled like old gym socks. I dumped $22 of flour into that jar and now it just sits on my counter growing mold while I buy bread at the store again. Did anyone else's starter outlive the craze or did we all quietly give up around the same point?
