Two schools of thought on signing off a repair you did on your own bird
I was in the hangar at Van Nuys last month and caught myself double checking a torque I had just set on a flap actuator, and I could not tell if that was good practice or me being rusty. Some of the older guys say you should never sign your own work without a second set of eyes, but half the crew says that slows everything down and trust in your own hands is the whole job. Where do you all land on it?
Honestly this whole debate feels way overblown to me. A flap actuator torque is not some mystery, you set it to spec and move on with your day. The "never sign your own work" crowd acts like every solo signoff is a crash waiting to happen, but most of the guys I know who double check everything are just nervous, not safer. If you can't trust yourself to hit a torque value you probably shouldn't be in the hangar at all. Half the time the second set of eyes is just a guy glancing at it for two seconds and saying looks good anyway.
