Bought a 'wireless' relay module that ate 3 weekends of my time
Picked up a cheap wireless relay from that online auction site for 38 bucks last month. Took me a whole Saturday to figure out the pairing only worked within 4 feet of the panel. Then Sunday I ran the whole setup and the dang thing reverted to factory defaults after a power blip. Third weekend I finally read the fine print, the range spec was for open field, not through drywall and studs. Ended up tossing it in the bin and running a hardwire like I should have from the start. Anyone else get burned by those budget wireless modules or am I the only sucker here?

That whole experience sounds like a textbook case of "cheap now, pay later with your time." Seems like every budget gadget has that one hidden catch that only shows up after you've already invested hours into it. Hard to beat the simple truth that wires just work, even if they're not as fun to show off.
