That time a homeowner watched me like a hawk for 6 hours

Last month I did a full panel swap in a 1970s ranch house in Phoenix. The owner pulled up a lawn chair and sat 3 feet away the whole time. He kept asking if I was sure about every wire I touched. I finally stopped and handed him the screwdriver and said you want to take over? He laughed but stayed there for the next 4 hours. Has anyone else had a customer camp out during a complex install like that?

Oh man, that's brutal. I feel for you. Six hours of being watched like a hawk is way too much. It's like they think we're gonna mess up on purpose or something. That "you want to take over?" move is golden though. Usually gets them to back off a bit. Some folks just need to see every move you make to feel safe spending that cash.

That "you want to take over" part got me. I've done this exact move. Works every time. Customers camp because they're scared of the cost and the sparky. Hand them the tool and they realize how clueless they are. Most will back off after that. Some won't though. Those are the ones who watch you flush a toilet for three hours.
