I tried watching One Piece two ways and one was a total game changer

My friend said to just start from episode 1, but after 50 episodes I was still in the East Blue. Then I tried the 'One Pace' fan edit that cuts out filler, and I got through the Alabasta arc in a weekend. The pacing was so much better and I actually got hooked on the story. Has anyone else used a fan edit to get into a long series?

Saw a poll where most people skip filler to save time. Elliot_mason62 has a point about it being a crazy commitment. The Kai edits seem like the smart move for the full story.
