Ran into a guy at a con who said Naruto should've ended after the Pain arc
I was at Anime Expo in LA last summer, standing in line for the Crunchyroll panel, and this guy behind me just blurts out that Naruto peaked right there and everything after was filler. He said the war arc was a mess and the Kaguya twist ruined Shippuden for me entirely. I told him I actually liked the final Sasuke vs Naruto fight and he just shook his head and walked away. It stuck with me because I thought I was the only one who felt that way at first, but now I hear that take everywhere online. Has anyone else had a random stranger completely change how you see a show like that?

Man, that's a rough way to have your first big disagreement on a show, huh? I had something similar happen to me with the exact same series. A guy at a record store told me the Sasuke vs. Deidara fight was the peak of Shippuden and everything after was downhill, and I got so defensive at first. But after I cooled off, I realized he had a point about the pacing getting weird. @wesleyflores, I feel you on that cooking show thing, sometimes simpler is better after all that built-up drama. It's wild how one random person's honest opinion can make you rewatch the whole thing with fresh eyes.

You ever have a moment where a stranger's hot take makes you question your own taste? I had a guy at a comic shop tell me the Chunin Exams were the only good part of Naruto and I should stop watching after that. I argued with him for twenty minutes, went home, and rewatched the series. Turns out he was right about a lot of the filler, but I still love the Sasuke retrieval arc even if it's a mess. Now I just call myself a casual fan and try not to pick fights at cons.
