Blew a control board last month because I didn't check the capacitor first

I figured a bad board on a 4-year-old fridge, swapped it out for $180, and it died again in 2 days. Turns out the run cap was reading way low and frying the relay every time, learned to test caps before throwing parts at anything. Anyone else have a stupid expensive lesson from skipping a simple meter check?

Skipping a simple meter check" is how half the expensive mistakes in life get made.

Yeah, "skipping a simple meter check" is pretty much the story of my life. Last week I eyeballed my gas tank instead of checking and ran out on the freeway, which cost me a tow truck and a lot of embarrassment. So yeah, I'm the poster child for how not doing the small thing makes everything way worse.

Gasped out loud when I read "eyeballed my gas tank." That is such a classic move. I did the same thing with my oil light a few months back. Just figured it was a glitch, kept driving for another week, and ended up with a rod knock that totaled my engine. Cost me three grand for a used engine swap. All because I couldn't be bothered to pull over and pop the hood for five seconds.
