Burned $260 on a "universal" control board kit that fit zero of my last 6 jobs
I want to warn everybody about those cheap universal control board kits you see online. Back in March I paid $260 for one of those kits that claims it can replace boards in fridges, washers, and dryers from almost any brand. The listing had great reviews so I figured it would save me trips to the supply house. First job I tried it on was a Whirlpool fridge in Salem, and the connector layout was totally different. I spent 90 minutes splicing wires and it still threw an error code. Same story on a Maytag washer two days later, and then a GE dryer after that. I ended up eating the cost of the kit plus two callbacks, which put me out around $400 total when you count the gas. My parts guy at the counter just shook his head and said he sees techs make this mistake every spring. Has anyone found a universal board that actually works, or should I just stick to OEM and stop chasing shortcuts?
