My pole saw grip was backwards for 4 years until a storm cleanup in Tulsa

I was trimming a big oak after that windstorm and my wrist was killing me after 20 minutes. A guy from the city crew walked over, watched me for a second, and said 'you're holding it like a shovel, flip your top hand over' and he was right. I had the thumb on top when it needs to wrap underneath for control, and now cuts take half the effort. Has anyone else had a basic tool habit that took a stranger to correct, or am I the only one who missed this in training?

That kind of thing happens way more than people think. Most of us learn a tool once and then just repeat whatever felt okay that first time, even if it's wrong. Same thing with how people hold a hammer or stand when they mow. It takes somebody who does it all day to spot the small thing that makes a huge difference. A buddy of mine found out he was loading his wheelbarrow backwards for years until a landscaper laughed at him. Sometimes we just need one person to point out the obvious before it clicks.
