Watching a dig at Mesa Verde last summer got me hooked on pottery sherds
I signed up for a 2 day volunteer program at Mesa Verde National Park in June and on the second morning I pulled a black on white pottery sherd out of a trench that a park archaeologist said was around 800 years old. Holding something someone made that long ago honestly threw me, and now I stop and check every rock pile on hikes hoping for another one. I am signed up for a field school in Cortez next spring and I am slowly learning how to tell a sherd from a plain rock. What is the smallest thing you have ever found that made you stop and stare?
