My old neighbor in Tucson pointed at the sky and asked if I saw the same thing he did
I was out on my porch messing with my cheap tripod when he walked over and asked what I was shooting. He told me he'd been looking at the same patch of sky for 40 years and never once got tired of it. Then he pulled up a photo on his phone from 1998, same spot, way worse camera, and it still looked amazing to me. Made me stop obsessing over gear and just shoot what's up there. Does anyone else have an older photo of theirs that still beats the new stuff?
That line about looking at the same patch of sky for 40 years and never getting tired of it really got me. My best shot is still one I took on a beat up point and shoot back in 2011, and nothing I've bought since has topped it. Gear comes and goes but that feeling of just catching something up there stays the same.
