Vent: I thought my neighbor's $150 gutter guards were a waste, then we got 3 inches of rain in one night
My neighbor in Decatur put these cheap mesh gutter guards on last fall and I honestly laughed to myself, figured he just wasted $150 on something that would clog anyway. I clean my gutters twice a year with a scoop and a hose, takes me about 3 hours each time, and I figured that was just how it goes. Then we got that storm two weeks ago, 3 inches in like 4 hours, and I watched his downspouts push water like a fire hose while mine overflowed and soaked the mulch bed by my foundation. I poked my head up his ladder the next day and the mesh was clear, not one leaf stuck. So now I'm eating crow and shopping for the same thing. Anyone here tried those guards on a house with big oak trees nearby, do they really hold up past one season?
