inSpent 4 hours chasing a ghost in a Freightliner engine bay near Amarillo
92 bucks for a replacement part and 4 hours of my Saturday because I refused to believe a wire crimp from 1987 could fail. Turned out the thing was loose all along, not even corroded, just a bad connection from day one. I had it apart on the bench three times checking continuity before I finally wiggled the damn wire and the meter flickered. The fix took me like 30 seconds with a new butt connector. Still salty about it.

inLearned the hard way why you shouldn't name your variables 'data'
I once named a variable "stuff" and spent an hour wondering why it was empty.

inHad a flange warp on a 24-inch steam line during a shutdown in Toledo.
Same pattern with everything these days, rush the start and the finish always bites you back.

inThat insulation contractor who laughed at my stucco fix
i mean, idk, maybe it's just me but sometimes those pros are just trying to make themselves look good by calling out small stuff. i had a pest control guy tell me my caulk job around the windows was "gonna let termites in" and i was like whatever dude, you just want to upsell me. it's been three years and nothing's happened. plus even if that stucco patch does crack a little, you can just touch it up with elastomeric later for way less hassle than redoing the whole thing now. seems like contractors love to act like every little flaw is a disaster when half the time it's fine.

inThat 'emergency fund' advice failed me when my water heater blew last Tuesday
My friend saved up for two years and then her car transmission died the same week her cat needed surgery. Life has a way of making jokes at the worst times I swear.
