Just realized the guy who trained me at the shop in Dayton was right about label makers
Honestly for like 4 years I thought labeling both ends of every cable was a waste of time. I worked at a small repair shop in Dayton and my old boss would stand over my shoulder and say "label it at the jack and at the panel, every single time" and I'd roll my eyes and do it half the time. Last week I spent 2 hours tracing a single run in a business office with 40 drops because the last tech only tagged one end, and I kept losing track of which cable was which in the bundle. Somewhere around the third time crawling back under a desk I actually laughed out loud because I could hear his voice. What got me was how much faster the fix went once I found the one tagged end and realized the other end was just hanging loose with no mark at all. I went back to my van and ordered a label maker that same afternoon. Has anyone else had a habit they blew off for years finally make sense when it bit them?
