I used to count tears like they were proof, but now I just track eye contact and how many times they name the actual person they hurt. Anyone else have a tell they check first before deciding if it's real?
My sister sent me a video back in March where the guy spent the first 40 seconds talking about how hard the last year was for him, and the person he hurt never came up once. That was the moment I stopped caring about tears at all. Now I listen for whether they say the name of the person they hurt and whether they explain what they actually did, not just that they are sorry something happened. Timing matters too. If the apology drops the same week a brand pulls their deal, I already know what it is. The no eye contact thing gets me every time though, because looking down the whole video usually means they are reading something a publicist wrote. What is your cutoff for how long after the fact an apology still counts as real?
