Rant: I spent 4 hours debunking that '5 minute abs' video for my cousin and he still believes it
So my cousin sends me this clip where some guy says you can get a six pack in 5 minutes a day with no diet changes, and it has like 2 million views. I actually sat down and broke it apart step by step, the guy never mentions body fat once, he just does 3 ab moves and calls it done. I showed my cousin the math on how many calories that burns versus what a single soda has, and he goes 'well he looks good though.' I even pulled up the original video comments where people said they tried it for 30 days and saw nothing. Has anyone found a good way to get through to family on this stuff, or do I just let it go?
My brother pulled the same thing with a "30 day plank challenge" he found on TikTok. What helped was showing him a study from the Journal of Strength and Conditioning that said spot training doesn't melt fat in one area, it just builds the muscle under it. He didn't want to hear it from me, but seeing actual research made it click a bit more. Might be worth sending your cousin a real source instead of just the math on the soda.
