A guy in a Kroger parking lot on Ponce tried to sell me a used roach trap and I still think about it
Last month I was loading groceries at the Ponce Kroger when this older dude walked up holding a sticky trap with like 6 roaches stuck to it, asking if I wanted to buy it for $10 since it was "seasoned." I just stared at him for a second and told him the trap goes in the trash, not a plastic bag, and he acted like I was the weird one. He said his uncle swore by reusing traps because the old ones give off a smell that tells new roaches the spot is taken. I laughed the whole drive home but now I'm kind of wondering if there's any truth to it. Has anyone else heard this one or was that just a Marietta Ave special?
Man, that uncle theory is wild but it kind of tracks if you think about it. Roaches do leave pheromones behind so other roaches know where the food and safe spots are, that part is real. So in a gross way, the guy wasn't totally making it up, a used trap is basically a sign that says "this place is poppin" to every roach in a mile radius. But the whole point of a trap is to kill them, not advertise for them, so reusing it is like leaving a welcome mat out for the roach convention. Ten dollars for a bug trap with six dead bugs already in it is a whole new level of hustle though, I gotta respect the confidence if nothing else.
