Hot take: a guy at the Ace on Buford Highway changed my whole termite game, now I'm second guessing it
I had a termite guy come out about 6 months ago to look at some mud tubes on my crawl space joists, and I was all set to sign up for the $1,400 bait station deal he was pushing. Then I'm at the Ace on Buford Highway buying caulk, and this older guy behind the counter asks what I'm working on. I mention the termites and he says, real blunt, "bait stations don't do a thing if your moisture problem is still there." I went home and actually looked, and sure enough my downspout dumps right into that corner of the foundation. So here's my debate: do I trust the bug guy with the license and the warranty, or the old timer who says fix the water first and save yourself the money? I spent $60 on gutter extenders and the tubes dried up in about 3 weeks, but now I'm paranoid every spring that I'm one warm spell away from a real problem. Part of me thinks the counter guy was right that most termite trouble in Atlanta is just wet wood around a house, and part of me thinks I'm being dumb for skipping a pro with actual treatment. Has anyone here gone the "fix the moisture and cross your fingers" route and regretted it later? Which side would you take?
