I finally saw why old school metal work beats filler every time
Was helping a buddy with a 1972 Datsun 240Z in his garage last weekend. The quarter panel had this massive dent and he just grabbed the hammer and dollies, no filler. Took him about 3 hours but the metal looked like glass when he was done. Made me think about how shops back in the 80s used to shape everything by hand before bondo took over. Has anyone else noticed the younger guys skipping the hammer work and just reaching for the mud?

massive dent" and no filler. Real respect right there.

Have you ever tried using a bit of heat to help work that dent out? A hair dryer on low can make a huge difference if you catch it early enough. @brooket43 is right, skipping filler is the way to go if you can manage it. Ive messed around with this myself, and patience is key - dont rush it or youll make it worse. A little gentle pressure from the inside can get you closer than youd think, honestly.

Heat is a game changer for sure. Nothing beats seeing metal flow back into shape like that.
