My uncle told me to always use a guide coat on filler work, said it was the only way to see the low spots. He was right, saved me a ton of time on a 2018 F-150 bedside last week.

Yeah, your uncle's spot on about guide coats showing the lows. I read that in an old bodywork book, it's a game changer.

My uncle's the same guy who still thinks a coat of primer hides sins better than a confession. That old book probably had a chapter on using a block of wood and a prayer.

Man, that hits close to home (my dad's the same way). It's wild how those old-school tricks still work better than a lot of new stuff. Guess some things just don't need fixing.
