Oh man, the finger test saved me too but here's the thing nobody mentions: the pot size matters a ton here. If your fig is in a pot way bigger than its root ball, that bottom soil stays wet forever even with the finger trick, so you might want to check that too. Glad it's pushing new leaves though, that first one after a drop always feels like a win.
