I finally figured out my crimp failures were my own fault, and a $9 tool tester is what clued me in
Spent the better part of two years chasing intermittent faults on a Cessna 172 harness and kept blaming the cheap contacts from the parts bin. Last Tuesday I pulled out a little pull-test gauge a retired guy in Wichita sold me for 9 bucks and every one of my crimps on the red side failed at way under spec. Turns out I'd been setting the ratchet die one notch off the whole time because the label rubbed off years ago and I just guessed. Now I'm going back through three squawk sheets wondering how many of those are mine. Anybody else find out their go-to tool was quietly working against them?
