Hot take: I picked the 600 page novel over the 250 page one for book club and it was a mistake
Our club in Akron had to pick between two books last month, the shorter one everyone could finish in a week or this 600 page monster that won a big award. I pushed hard for the monster because I figured more pages meant more to talk about, but only 3 of the 9 of us actually finished it and the meeting turned into me explaining the plot for 40 minutes. Does your club have a page limit rule, or do you just let whoever suggests the book deal with the fallout?

My sister's club in Dayton set a 400 page cap after a similar disaster with a Franzen novel.
