Finally got my trail gear dialed in after 3 trips of packing way too much
Three trips ago I brought 42 pounds of gear for an overnighter on the Superior Hiking Trail and my knees were done by mile 4. Last month I cut it down to 26 pounds just by ditching the extra cook kit and the second pair of boots. This past weekend at Gooseberry Falls I did 11 miles with 19 pounds and felt fine the whole way. The big change was measuring everything on a kitchen scale instead of guessing, turns out my sleep system alone was 7 pounds heavier than I thought. My buddy kept telling me to just buy lighter stuff but weighing what I already had was free and got me most of the way there. Anyone else find that the scale taught them more than any gear swap ever did?
