Wrote off hose clamps for years, then one let go on I-40 and my thinking flipped
Last Thursday I was hauling a trailer back from Flagstaff when a cheap worm gear clamp on my upper radiator hose let go, and I watched the temp gauge climb past 240 in about 30 seconds. I had a spare in the toolbox but it was the same style, so I limped it to a parts store in Kingman and the guy there talked me into a $9 spring clamp instead. I always figured those were junk, but he showed me how the spring keeps constant tension when the hose swells and shrinks, and honestly the worm gear ones had been digging into my hose and chewing it up for months. Been 4 days of daily driving now with zero leaks, so I'm slowly coming around. Anyone here actually run spring clamps full time, or am I about to get burned again?
