Learned the hard way that the cheapest quote on the page is not the real price
I was moving my son's Civic from Phoenix to Denver last spring and got five quotes that ranged from $650 to $1,150, so I almost went straight for the low one. Then a buddy who hauls cars for a living told me the cheap number usually skips the fuel surcharge and the broker fee, and sure enough, when I called back and asked for an all-in price, that $650 quote turned into $940. The $1,150 quote barely moved, so that was the one that was actually honest. Now I ask every company for the door-to-door total in writing, including whatever fee they add on. How do you all check a quote for hidden fees before you commit?
